Wilderness Toka Leya overlooks the stunning islands in the mighty Zambezi River, offers the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure. It is an ideal location for the beginning or end of your African safari. Enjoy morning explorations of the river, the surrounding Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or nearby Victoria Falls which can easily be followed by a tranquil afternoon at the spa or practising inspired yoga on the panoramic deck of the gym.

The camp offers 12 spacious, en-suite safari-style tents including 3 family tents featuring expansive decks serving up dramatic views and glimpses of wildlife. In true Wilderness Safaris fashion, the lodge has limited its footprint on this pristine area. Wooden walkways snake between the units and the main area where the dining, bar and lounge area are complemented by an infinity pool, a sundeck for sumptuous meals and a convivial fire pit for night-time gatherings.

Wildlife at Toka Leya and surrounds

Toka Leya overlooks the mighty Zambezi River where hippo, crocodile and elephant are often seen, as well as an incredible diversity of birdlife. It is also centrally located in the Mosi-oa-Tunya Park which hosts species such as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and white rhino. The occasional predator is also seen. Several sought-after bird species are found, including African finfoot, half-collared kingfisher, African skimmer (seasonal), Schalow's turaco and rock pratincole (seasonal).

Sustainable Tourism 

With the initiation of a "tree-planting project" and pioneering energy-saving systems and recycling initiatives, this formerly degraded site has been rehabilitated to become a lush riverine woodland once more. Lodge management and guests who visit Toka Leya, continue to plant trees, even donating to renew other sites in Zambia. The lodge has also taken pride in the community partnerships that have been created here.

The highest falls water levels are February – through to April. During this period, the spray is heavy, so prepare for a drenching – part of the total Falls experience! Raincoats and umbrellas are available. In the drier months, river levels fall, allowing for an appreciation of the cavernous Batoka Gorge and spectacular photographic opportunities.
