Day 1 

• On arrival at Kigali Airport, you will be met by a representative from Akagera Aviation who will accompany you to the Arrivals hall for an introduction to your private driver/guide who will stay with you throughout your time in Rwanda. Your drive to Hemingways Retreat will be approximately 30-minutes.
• After check-in at Hemingways Retreat, you will spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2

• This morning after breakfast, you will be collected by your guide and transfered to Wilderness Sabyinyo (3-hours).
• After check-in at Sabyinyo, you will spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 3

Today is the day! Gorilla Trekking in the Volcanoes National Park

Typical Day on a Gorilla Trek

• Early wake up and breakfast at the lodge
• At 06h30, you will be transferred to the Volcanoes National Park HQ
• At 07h00 there is registration & free coffee!
• You will be put into groups, Each group’s Lead Guide briefs the trekkers of the procedures as well as the “do’s and don’ts” whilst in the presence of gorillas.
• After the briefing, you will return to your respective vehicles for the drive to the starting point. Porters may be hired for the trek to carry your backpack and gear - Cost, USD 10 per person/per day. We strongly advise that you utilise this service. The guides stop frequently to allow trekkers a chance to rest and take photos along the way. After the trek, you will rejoin your driver / guide for the transfer back to your lodge in time for lunch.

Suggested Clothing and Gear for Gorilla Trekking:

• For trekking one should have: boots with good grip, gators, gloves, a waterproof jacket, thick socks, thick pants to protect against stinging nettles, and long-sleeved tops.
• For the lodge one should have: pants, long sleeve tops, t-shirts, a warm layer for the evenings, closed shoes, and a swimming costume.
• Comfortable walking shoes/track shoes/hiking boots for walks.

Clothing and Gear Available for Use from the Lodge:

• Backpacks
• Rain gear (waterproof jackets, trousers and ponchos)
• Garden gloves
• Long gaiters
• Walking boots (on request)
• Shoe cleaning service available
• Walking sticks available at the starting point of the trek

Day 4

Today, the same routine will be followed for your trek to see the gorgeous, mischievous Golden Monkeys!

• Community Visit
• Cultural Experiences
• Visit Natural Landmarks like the Twin Lakes of Burera & Ruhondo, or the sacred Buhanga Forest
• Visit the vegetable gardens
• In-room massage treatments

Day 5

• This morning, after breakfast, you will be collected by your guide and driven to Wilderness Magashi (5-hours).
• After check-in, you can spend the day at leisure.

Optional Activities at Wilderness Magashi include:

• Game Drives: Explore the area in an open 4x4 vehicle; each vehicle accommodates a maximum of seven guests, allowing each individual an outside seat.
• Boating: Boating in eight-seater swamp cruisers. This is an excellent way to view the water birds and many other aquatic animals seen around Lake Rwanyakazinga.
• Birding: Akagera is renowned as one of the best birding areas in the world with almost 500 species of bird recorded here.
• Fishing: Fishing on a catch-and-release basis only.
• Guided Nature Walks: View East African bird- and wildlife specials from expertly guided nature walks.

• This morning after breakfast, you will be collected by your Guide & transferred to Kigali International Airport (4-hours) in sufficient time to check-in for your onward flight.
• On arrival at the airport, you will be met by a representative from Akagera Aviation, who will assist you with check-in for your onward flight.
