Luxurious Vumbura Plains lies in an area that is a mix of water and dry land. The wildlife is diverse so that both land and water activities on vehicles, mekoro and boats deliver an all-around African safari experience.
Vumbura Plains comprises two satellite camps, each with its own main area with an expansive vista across the floodplains and furnished with idiosyncratic objets d’art. The 14 tents, raised off the ground, are unique and contemporary in design, with extensive use of light, wood and space. Each includes a sunken lounge, sala, and plunge pool. Each of the two family units has private decks linking the two separate tents.
Located in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta and sharing the private 90 000 hectares Kwedi Concession with its sister camp, Little Vumbura, Vumbura Plains is surrounded by grassland referred to locally as ‘melapo’.These grasslands are flooded annually by the waters of the Okavango and offer spectacular seasonal game viewing which can be attributed to the variety of vegetation found here. Discover open floodplains, dense mopane woodland, permanent swamplands and waterways as well as island habitats created by the combined effect of local summer rains and the annual winter floodwaters of the Okavango Delta.
The concession is leased from five villages through the Okavango Community Trust in a partnership that ensures that the benefits of ecotourism are shared with our neighbouring rural stakeholders.
The Okavango Delta is a vast inland river delta in northern Botswana. It's known for its sprawling grassy plains, which flood seasonally, becoming a lush animal habitat. The Moremi Game Reserve occupies the east and central areas of the region. Here, dugout canoes are used to navigate past hippos, elephants and crocodiles. On dry land, wildlife includes lions, leopards, giraffes and rhinos.
